Archive for March, 2013

I love this time of year, coming out of the holiday craziness and the winter blahs to greet the oncoming spring. For this artist it also means getting outside to reconnect with nature, opportunities for plein air painting and all the spring art shows and galas.

Since the first of January, I have been furiously working in the studio writing exhibit proposals, submitting entries to juried shows and preparing for a solo exhibit at The Frank Creech Gallery at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC. I hung the show this past Monday and thrilled to be a part of a dynamic art program under the direction of William Gregory. The exhibit opens on March 11 with reception 5:30 – 7:30 pm on Friday, March 15.

Whenever I have a solo show, I feel like I’m giving birth. This particular body of work titled Journey to a Distant Dream is a culmination of five years of research and experimentation in mixed media, inspired by a series of dreams I had after a personal crisis of faith. I’m proud of the results. Although it has been a long journey working with such a personal concept, the series became my thesis project in the completion of my MFA in painting. I look forward to sharing it further and seeing how it evolves further.
